INTERWEAVE 2018
Stained and Lacquered Western Maple. 102 x 76 x 78”. Located in the lobby of the Cowichan Community Centre, Duncan, BC. Interweave was commissioned by the Cowichan Community Centre as a way to reconcile the grief and controversy that the community felt for the removal of a heritage tree on the property, the timber of which became the sculpture. Inspired by the tree’s hollow trunk, I worked to recreate its essence as a place as well as a space. It required lots of creative problem-solving and joinery, as well as the building of a solar kiln, to dry the timber. Press: -CBC Radio 90.5 in Victoria, July 10, 2018. -Chek News, Victoria.
